David in Hour of Lifting

THE HOUR OF LIFTING:

We get it wrong when we rely totally on the ability of our hands. Great minds rely on God. King David was once faced with the challenge of a war against the Philistines in 1 Chronicle 14. The bible says in verse 10 of the chapter that David inquired of God. God told him how to execute the war and he got victory. In verse 14 of same chapter, the bible said that David inquired of God again when same enemies mobilized again. This time, God gave him a new strategy to conquer. David, a well known man of war, went back to God for inquiry to defend the enemies he had always defeated.

Lessons:

1) TOTAL DEPENDENCE:
From the story, it is easily deduced that David depended on God totally. How much do you depend on God? Despite that his victory over the giant from Philistine announced him yet he relied on God.

2) DIFFERENT STRATEGIES MAY BE REQUIRED:
From the experience of David, it should be noted that different strategies may be required to execute different wars. In the first war, God told David to simply "go up" and in the second war He told him:"Go up not...." He had to give a different approach which eventually led to victory. You don't need the strength of a commissioner to be a minister, you need God. Every level of life has a different approach to it. Seek the face of God.

3) HE IS READY TO ASSIST YOU:
From David's experience, it is noted that God is always ready to assist us as long as we involve Him. We should not be acting like Peter who returned to fishing after he was saved from the failure of ordinary fishing. As a teacher a few years ago, I remember a day I forgot what I was about to write on the board in front of over 200 students. I systematically bent my head and silently said:"Holy Spirit, help me...." Immediately, I was assisted and saved from embarrassment. That was how I understood the power what is being given out this morning.

No matter how much you have been able to achieve in life, try as much as you can to rely on God. Always commit your activities to Him and rely on His directions.

As you rely on God this week, His right hand will defend you. I pray in Jesus' name. Amen!
